چکیده

Purpose: Recent studies have documented a link between axial myopia and ciliary muscle morphology; yet, the variation in biometric characteristics of the emmetropic ciliary muscle are not fully known. Ciliary muscle morphology, including symmetry, was investigated between both eyes of emmetropic participants and correlated to ocular biometric parameters. Methods: Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (Zeiss, Visante) was utilised to image both eyes of 49 emmetropic participants (mean spherical equivalent refractive error (MSE) ≥-0.55; < +0.75 D), aged 19 to 26 years. High resolution images were obtained of nasal and temporal aspects of the ciliary muscle in the relaxed state. MSE of both eyes was recorded using the Grand Seiko WAM 5500; axial length (AXL), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and lens thickness (LT) of the right eye were obtained using the Haag-streit Lenstar LS 900 biometer. A bespoke semi-objective analysis programme was used to measure a range of ciliary muscle parameters.

Ocular biometric measurements in emmetropic and myopic malaysian children - a population-based study.

This is the first population based study on ocular biometric measurements (OBMs) conducted in Malaysia. Its objective is to measure and compare among children of different ethnicity who have myopia and emmetropia. Subsets of children aged between 7 and 8 years old who participated in a larger population based refractive error study had their axial length, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness ...

The retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARA) gene is not associated with myopia, hypermetropia, and ocular biometric measures

PURPOSE The Retinoic Acid Receptor Alpha (RARA) gene is a potential candidate gene for myopia due to its differential expression in animal models during experimentally induced myopia. To test for whether RARA is associated with myopia we have undertaken a case-control study assessing for associations between RARA and myopia, hypermetropia, and ocular biometric measures. METHODS A total of 802...

Expanding forces in aqueous outflow pathways of a nonaccommodating mammal: an approach via comparative dynamic morphology.

Six dog eyes were fixed by intracameral perfusion of fixative at pressures of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 cm of water. Eight dog eyes were fixed after the injection in both ocular chambers of a number of cholinergic agents, either singly or in combination. Under the effect of miotics and under increased ocular pressure, the aqueous pathways expand. An analysis of the forces involved in expansion o...

The Biometric Values of Affected and Fellow Eyes in Patients with Acute Attack of Primary Angle Closure

Background: It has been estimated that 67 million people worldwide are affected with a primary glaucoma and that one-third have primary angle closure glaucoma. We aimed to determine the biometric differences between the eyes of patients with acute attack of primary angle closure and their non-involved fellow eyes. Methods: Twenty eight patients with acute attack of primary angle closure were re...
